Child and Adolescent Psychiatrist

ABOUT

Dr. Ettore Guaia is a Child and Adolescent Psychiatrist with a special interest in neurodevelopmental disorders, specialising in Autism Spectrum Disorders, ADHD and Tourette’s Syndrome. 

He completed his specialist training in Neuropsychiatry and Child Psychiatry in Palermo Italy and attended two fellowships at the Royal Hospital for Sick Children in Edinburgh and St. George’s Hospital in London in 1995 and 1996, respectively. 

After completing both fellowships, Dr. Guaia provided clinical services in Italy for the National Health Service, and in 2003, relocated to the United Kingdom where he worked as Consultant in Child and Adolescent Psychiatry for Child and Adolescent Mental Health Services in South Essex and Hampshire leading dedicated services for people with intellectual disabilities and mental health conditions.

From January 2012 to September 2017, Dr. Guaia has worked as Consultant Child and Adolescent Psychiatrist at Princess Margaret Hospital for the Acute CAMHS as Paediatric Consultation Liaison assessing and treating children and young people who present with emotional difficulties as a consequence of a medical condition.

In November 2017 relocated to Sydney to establish a specialist service for Intellectual disabilities and mental health at the Mental Health Drug and Alcohol unit at Royal North Shore Hospital.

In addition, he has great experience in treating young people with Chronic Fatigue Syndrome and Chronic pain and emotional difficulties, as well as children and adolescents with non-epileptic seizures, conversion disorders and emotional difficulties as a consequence of a chronic health condition.

He has also developed expertise in assessing and treating children and young people with anxiety and obsessive-compulsive disorders and has pursued research experience in ADHD at the Institute of Psychiatry King’s College London.

He speaks English, and Italian and is available for tele-psychiatry consultations
